Phillip Island

Updated: May 1, 2020

Last week Caroline and I did a full day bus tour of Phillip Island.

We got picked up from Saint Kilda out the front of a Hostel and joined a bus full of backpackers for a 2 hour journey to Phillip Island.

We took a few stops on the way which included Maru Koala and Animal Park. We got to see Peacocks, Kangaroos, Wallaby's, Emus, Birds, and of course, Koalas. We ate and explored for an hour. We piled back on the bus and continued our journey.

Our next stop was Smiths beach I believe. A quick stop to see some crazy waves and beautiful open and unpopulated beach. Our bus driver threw in a little surprise because of popular demand; We went to the chocolate Factory in Phillip Island. After indulging ourselves, we carried onto The Nobbies to see the edge of the island and some penguins. This wasn't the main stop for the penguins but it was my favourite stop. The views were amazing and waves mesmerising. After our stop we went to the main destination being the Penguin Parade. We got there at 7pm, ate some dinner and then got a seat on the beach before it was packed with (more) tourist. One of the workers spoke to us about the penguins and what the non-profit group that runs the beach do for them. The sun went down at 9pm and the Penguins slowly, but surely came onto the beach in small groups. Unfortunately our bus was scheduled to leave at 9:40pm and the Penguins were being very slow. We got up to leave and on our walk back over the boardwalks we got to see little baby penguins waiting for their parents to come back from their adventure to sea for food.

All in all it was a great trip.

Here are the photos. (we weren't allowed to photograph the penguins because of policies)
