Laurent's Birthday was coming up and friends of his that he works with wanted to do a surprise party and make a theme for the night; Japanese. It's a bit of an inside joke but the short answer is when he and his brother took a trip to Japan for 2 or so weeks, he came back with a years worth of travel photos that he put on to Instagram.
Fast forward to his birthday party and all in all it was a good night. Caroline and I couldn't find stuff to wear so we just took what we had from home. I bought chopsticks while we travelled in Japan so I took those and Caroline wore a band shirt of mine (Twelve Foot Ninja)
We stayed the night at his, his mum was the highlight of the night, pouring shots for everyone and giving some great one liners of the night.
In the morning his mum made us breakfast and we made our way to St Kilda as we were going to a Mallrat gig. We got to the venue and this was the shittest venue and set of rules I've ever come across but maybe because it was an all ages event. We bought tickets to this show of hers because we missed out on earlier ones. We get in and they say we can't leave the venue as we would not be allowed back in. This was 2pm in the evening and the acts hadn't even started yet. They were serving water and some soft drinks. The whole thing was just getting people to sign up to some youth programs and filling in forms about how you found out about the event. Mallrat wasn't coming on for another hour and a half so we were like 'yeah nah' and left.
We went to Saint Kilda beach and just sat and drank the bottles we had left over from the party.
We got lunch on the pier and as the sun went down the penguins came out. The sunset was amazing and even though we didn't see Mallrat play, it was a great day. We were seeing Mallrat at Groovin the Moo anyway and she was great there. Absolutely killed it. (Unfortunately was too dark to photograph the penguins with no flash photography)
