Welcome to part 2 of re-visiting Japan's travel photos, 2019. Like part 1's post, these are some basic edits as I've already done the re-edits for the photos that made it into the print shop. You can check those out in the 'Print Shop' listed in the menu tab.
The first photo gallery has the original, edited, and re-edit files in order. The second photo gallery has the original and re-edited photos that did not have edits already done to them in the past.
Let's have a look at the photos. I will get into the details of some photos at the end of the gallery.
So as you can see, not too much of a difference with the original edits and the re-edits. There wasn't much I could change as the lighting is very forceful and if I was to change the lighting colour drastically, the skin tones would have been very gross. I tried to approach these photos with less force as the edited ones had. But I also wanted to try and separate the edits so they did look different and have a slight change of approach.
If anything, these photos should serve as a reminder that not every photo taken is a good one. These photos shouldn't be thrown away but learned from instead. Compare them to other photos you have taken and see what worked and what didn't between the two.
The photos below are edits with no original photos. I quite like the second edit. The panther robot looks very mysterious and powerful with the strong bright and distinct neon lights, and the black shadows contrasting each other.
Here these photos are the original and re-edits placed next to each other for reference.
The edits I made were to boost the colours, brightness, and focus and tone of the image. I wanted the photos to feel welcoming as they are placed in a dark setting with harsh lights. I wanted them to feel playful and inviting. I do like the strong contrast between the colours and the dark setting in the Robot Restaurant. It makes the photos feel very different from our reality.
My favourite photo here would have to be the drummer in row 5 and 6. Things were moving very fast here and yet here he is, focused, centred, and clear. The strong contrast between the red drum and drumstick with the blue-lit environment makes for a nice tone battle in the very saturated setting.
Scroll through the photos below to see what I mean.
Thanks for joining me today and checking out the photos I've taken and edited.
Join me next Friday at 12 pm for another blog post. Until then, stay safe.
