Re-visiting Travel Photos - Florence, Italy 2019

Hello! Today I've got another 'Re-visiting Travel photos' blog for you. We'll be looking at photos I snapped in Florence, and the edits I have done for them.

Again, this week I have taken a different approach to the edits compared to last week's Venice/Zurich photo edits. I still wanted the photos to be warm, but with a stronger presence of whites and blues, as the photos have a lot of sky and white buildings. I browsed through my presets and found a good starting point with one of them, and adjusted from there. The majority of these photos were shot a few stops under so they were very dull, giving me a flat canvas to work with. I had to up the exposure by 1 or 2 stops and then bring the highlights 100% down to have the shadows at a good level of visibility. This was okay but it didn't give me too much room to play with the contrast between the shadows and highlights.

I wanted these images to be bright and pop with the whites and blues because of the simplicity and minimalism of the photos and the subjects within them. A solo building with people scattered on the street. A lone shot of a statue. They are basic shots, framed mostly centered or slightly off, so they are perfect to really focus in on and give the brightness and attention it deserves to showcase the details the subjects have to offer.

To me, some of the building shots feel Wes Anderson-y. Very symmetrical and wide, which I like!

The edits mainly consisted of making sure the temperature wasn't too warm, making sure the image was centered on my subjects, and that the shadows were bright enough to read the image easily, but not too bright that it makes the shadows tinged with blue or green.

Without further ado, here are my favourite images of the re-edits. You can check out the rest side by side with the original images further below.

Thanks for joining me and I'll see you all next week. Until then, stay safe!!
