After a night in Brussells, we boarded a bus to Amsterdam where we stayed for a couple of nights at a hostel. You can read about the trip in my blog post here - https://www.jackhamilton.online/post/2019/10/01/london-brussels-amsterdam-and-berlin
All the photos in this post and part 2 were taken on the 7th of June.
The photos below were the only ones with original edits. Let's get into it.
The original edits have a strong beige/terracotta colour to them, almost like an overlay on the bricks of the buildings and street. I do like this style as it feels old school and aged. But its use could have been more cleanly done. It feels unfinished.
The framing on the original photos is quite nice throughout these shots. Although unleveled, the frames are filled well and the edges don't cut off dirty.
When approaching the re-edits, I wanted to go for a brighter tone, that had a European feeling. The brick tone is like that of Scotlands, but I wanted to bring it alive in colour and brightness, instead of darkening it. I went through the pre-sets I've made and a Japan preset jumped out at me. I made some adjustments to the greens, shadows, texture/clarity, and calibration, and it was ready. When applying it to the individual photos, I cropped the photos mainly to a 5x7 layout. You can check them all out in the gallery after the one with original edits.
These photos here came out really nicely in my opinion. Some of them I will be putting in the store for anyone interested. I've noticed that it takes less time to do the re-edits since I started out doing them. Whether that's because I know the angle I want to approach with the photos, or just from doing these for a while and knowing the basics that need to be applied for each photo. It feels good to notice an improvement in something you enjoy doing. Whether others agree or disagree doesn't bother me, it has always been something I do for myself, and I appreciate the people who have supported me and my work over the years.
Thanks for joining me. Next week's post will be part 2 of the Amsterdam photos, so until then, stay safe.
