Seeing Family I hadn't caught up with for more than a decade

Updated: May 1, 2020

Once I got to my dads' sisters place I texted her to let her know I had arrived. When she answered the door it felt like I knew her but didn't know where from as it had been when I was 4 or 5 when I last met her. She took me in and showed me around. And of course, made me a wee cuppa tea.

We spoke about what we had been up to and what I've done since arriving to the U.K. Caroline came in to Scotland at about 6pm. And Bruce, Jill's husband came home not long after. They made us dinner which was an amazing meal. Hadn't had a proper dinner since Sweden. Lee, their son joined us for dinner. He was 30 years old I believe and his brother who I had met for the first time in London was back down there for some work. Lee I remember when he was travelling in Australia. He stopped by my older brothers place when I was 14 I think.

We stayed in Jordan's room as it was free for the time we were staying. The next day we made our way into central Edinburgh. It was a cold day but we tried to see as much as we could before it got dark. We went into Edinburgh Castle and got to see the gun fire. Had lunch down the Royal Mile at a small but well established cafe down a small street. Once it got dark, we went to the Christmas market and Ice Skated around St Andrews Square and had Hot Chocolate with Baileys to warm us up. When we got back to Jill and Bruce's, they took us out for dinner to a new restaurant that had opened and they did great food. We ate up a storm and had a couple bevs.

We ended the night with desert and went back and slept.

The next morning we were leaving to go to Glasgow to see LANY perform live. We left by train and arrived at our Airbnb in the afternoon. Our hosts were actually leaving to go travel themselves so they left us the key and left. We had a power nap and then went out for dinner. We ordered pizza from a store down the road that the host mentioned. He said it was the best pizza we would ever have. And he was pretty spot on. We ordered 3 pizzas and finished them in no time. We had some drinks and then left for the venue. When we got there, there was a long line out the door and everyone was speaking so differently to Scottish people. It was actually harder to understand them. We got inside and made our way to the centre of the crowd. Before Lany started playing these group of girls in front of us started to talk to us, asking where we were from. I struggled so hard to understand them that I just laughed off any question they asked. They had their own slang that I was new to which is why it was hard to understand what they were saying.

LANY came on stage and it was such a great performance. Recommend anyone who doesn't know them to give them a listen.

After that night, we decided to go back on Edinburgh for a another night to go up to Arthur's Seat.
