Travelling and where it started for me

Updated: May 1, 2020

So, like every other person out there, we've all done some travelling with our parents as kids. But travelling on your own for the first time is the big step and one that we'll all remember. For me, Japan was that big step. After meeting Caroline (who travelled all the way from Sweden to Australia for a year) at the end of December 2016, we decided we wanted to travel to Japan after finding a post on Facebook about a Pug dog Cafe in Kyoto. We discussed it and after a very long minute, we began looking at places to check out and stay in. A week or so later we booked our flight. We left May 11th for 2 weeks and had a blast. Before leaving I looked up all the places to stay, budget for each day, travel insurance for the time frame we were there, and every activity we would do. I was over preparing as I was unsure of what might happen. This showed once we got there as it left us with very little time to check anything else that we might have been interested in, but it was also a positive as being in a foreign country for the first time that didn't speak much English can be overwhelming for anyone. The first few days there we encountered the hurdles but overcame them as we got our footing of the place and it's hidden rules. After settling in, we began our journey through Osaka, Kyoto and Nara! 2 weeks was a great time frame but our next trip there will call for more places to check out and more time to enjoy them as Japan has a lot to offer and I guarantee you'll want to stay for longer.
